Business Mileage Rate to Stay at 55.5 Cents in 2012

The IRS has announced that the business standard mileage rate for transportation expenses paid or incurred beginning January 1, 2012, will stay at 55.5 cents per mile, where it has been since July 1, 2011. Read an article from AAPA about all the mileage rates for 2012.

Obama Signs Repeal of Expanded 1099-MISC Reporting Into Law

On April 14, President Obama signed into law H.R. 4, the Comprehensive 1099 Taxpayer Protection and Repayment of Exchange Subsidy Overpayments Act of 2011 (Public Law 112-9). The new law repeals provisions in last year's health care reform legislation - the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act - that would have expanded the Form 1099-MISC reporting requirements to payments for services provided by corporations and payments for gross proceeds and property that total at least $600 in a calendar year beginning in 2012.

2011 Form 1099-MISC Available

The IRS has released Form 1099-MISC, Miscellaneous Income, for 2011. The form is virtually unchanged from 2010. Download the 2011 Form and Instructions.
