Health Insurance Reform Bills Enacted
On March 23, President Obama signed the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act into law, then followed up on March 30 by signing the Health Care and Education Reconciliation Act of 2010, which added some provisions and amended others.
Among other things, the bills roll out a variety of new reporting requirements, including expanded 1099-MISC reporting.

Mileage Rate Drops to 50 Cents for 2010
The IRS has announced that the business standard mileage rate for 2010 will drop to 50 cents per mile. The rate for medical or moving expenses will drop to 16.5 cents. Download the Revenue Procedure.
First Local AAPA Chapter Launches in D.C.
AAPA is proud to introduce its first AAPA local chapter--the Washington Metropolitan Area Chapter (WMAC) of the AAPA. WMAC President Daniel Dycus, CPP, said organizing an AAPA chapter has already helped bring AP education, information, and networking to the D.C. area. The WMAC chapter plans to hold its first official chapter meeting by the third quarter of 2009.
Dycus said he is also helping some of his colleagues form a second AAPA-affiliated chapter in the midwest--the American Accounts Payable Association Chicago Chapter.
